Square Dance Caller, Craig Marcuk, delivers lively energy, strong voice, and fun dances. He has been calling and organizing Square Dances for years and founded the Young Oldtime Music and Dance Association(YOMADA )in Victoria BC. He calls from the re-emerging tradition of Square Dancing in the Pacific Northwest. No experience is needed; all dances are taught on the spot to live music. He has called loads of dances at festivals and community events. Even toured tree planting camps in western Canada with the Western Family String Band, and Vancouver Island and the Golf Islands by sailboat with the Stowaway String Band. Called many dances with the top players of old time music such as the Foghorn String Band, Tatiana Hargraves and Alison Degroot, John Reishman, Daniel Lapp, The Tallboys, The Sweet Lowdown, and many more.
He has been the resident caller at the Sooke River Bluegrass Festival(7years), The Woodstove Festival(7years), and called at numerous festivals such as Arts Wells, Vancouver Island Music Festival, Folk life Seattle, Island Folk Fest, Hornby Island Fest, Edge of the World Festival, Pachenna Bay Fest, Campbell Bay Fest, Atlin Music Fest, Tofino Jazz Fest, and more. Craig has attended Three “Dare to be Square” calling workshops. Called twice at Seattle’s Tractor Tavern Square Dance, and continues to be a vibrant force in the Square dance community calling at Community Dances, School Workshops, Weddings and Parties. Craig also does instructional workshops at schools, on flatfoot dancing, and Two Step Dancing and Waltzing. He has a back ground in movement education being a physical therapist for over two decades.
